Q: How can my company/university use Web Services?
A: In order to use Web Services, you must contact your sales representative to discuss your needs. If you do not know who your sales representative is, please use this web form to contact Sales : http://scientific.thomsonreuters.com/forms/sales/
Q: What is Web Services?
A: Web Services is an API that uses standard transport protocols, such as HTTP, and message formats, such as SOAP and XML, to facilitate the exchange of data between Web of Knowledge and your custom application. Web Services is available for the following Web of Knowledge products; Biological Abstracts, Biosis Previews, CAB Abstracts, Cross Search, Current Contents Connect, Derwent Innovations Index, Food, Science, and Technology Abstracts, INSPEC, ISI Proceedings, Medline, PsychInfo, Web of Science and Zoological Records.
Q: Who can use Web Services?
A: Web Services supports federated searching for Web of Knowledge customers. Web Services allows a metasearch engine to search all Web of Knowledge applications, and Web of Knowledge will return XML data to the metasearch system. The customer and type of access will be captured, and a customer will be able to see their Web Services usage in Web of Knowledge report system.
Q: What types of authentication methods are available?
A: Identify the platform which you will use to consume Web Services. In other words, are you using a MetaLib server or building your own system? Make sure that the server that you will be using is authorized to access Web of Knowledge. The general standard is IP authentication. Another option available is Username/Password if you are planning to broker web service access for sites or locations that require different entitlements.
