The 2003
Medical Library Association Conference lived up to the theme of "Catch the Wave", as vendors and attendees were treated to a wealth of information and products during the exhibit held in San Diego.
As supporters of the annual event, Thomson ISI and
Thomson ISI ResearchSoft were visible at several events—including the International Visitors Reception—and were proud to sponsor a Sunrise Seminar.
Thomson ISI has provided funding to bring the library directors from the Medical Research Library of Latvia and the Holberton Hospital Library in Antigua to Washington, DC for MLA 2004. Jie Li, President,
International Cooperative Division, MLA made the announcement during her opening remarks.
During the Thomson ISI ResearchSoft Sunrise Seminar, Nancy Matus, Thomson ISI ResearchSoft, spoke to attendees about
EndNote® and
WriteNote®.
EndNote allows you to:
- Organize images and files in your EndNote 6 library—Any type of generic image or application file can be managed along with your text references using the new image and caption fields in any reference type. Now you can apply keywords and search for nontextual data the same way you do for references.
- Access images and create a figure list automatically—Cite While You Write™ provides an easy way to search for and insert figures into your Microsoft Word manuscript. EndNote 6 tracks inserted figures the same way it does references and automatically builds a figure list for submission.
- Construct your manuscript—EndNote 6 introduces built-in Word templates to guide you through the exacting manuscript requirements of publishers. Completed manuscripts are now publication-ready with all the key elements in addition to EndNote’s instantly formatted in-text citations, bibliography and figure list. Include all the key elements in your paper easily.
- Access more content—Most of your research today is done online. EndNote makes it easier for you to collect data from a wide variety of online resources and to publish manuscripts. With EndNote, you can connect to over 280 online sources including subscription resources such as ISI Web of Science® and hundreds of other public databases. Imagine the time you’ll save looking for references to journals, books and other materials with your EndNote personal library. And, you’ll never have to re-type a reference! New and updated content files—connection files, output styles, import filters and now manuscript templates—are available at www.endnote.com/support.
WriteNote, the newest addition to the ISI ResearchSoft product portfolio, is a Web-based research and writing tool for students to organize references and write papers. Students can now have the tools they need to take full advantage of library subscription resources and properly cite for attribution.
WriteNote Enables:
- Students to use library resources in their native interfaces and properly identify their sources in course papers.
- Librarians to help students focus on the quality content available from their institution's subscription resources and other recommended Web sites.
- Professors and instructors to recommend a tool that accommodates their discipline and course-specific requirements, and helps faculty to reinforce the principles of citing the works of others.
- Information technology staff to save time and effort with a tool that is hosted by ISI ResearchSoft and available 24/7 for local and remote access, including distance learning.
- Academic institutions with significant investments in library information to further leverage course-ware technologies and writing laboratories and expand their reach beyond the library walls.
Academic institutions may request free trials of
WriteNote by completing a
trial request.
In addition, the Thomson ISI staff was also on hand as attendees were interested in learning more about the updates to
ISI Web of KnowledgeSM. The latest version of
ISI Web of Knowledge offers personalization and alerting. With the personalization feature, users will be able to save search strategies on their desktop or on the
ISI Web of Knowledge server. Search strategies saved on the
ISI Web of Knowledge server can be retrieved by users who have access to
ISI Web of Knowledge from within an institution, or from any remote location where they can get access to the library’s services. An alert management page will allow users to quickly change search and alert options, and a personal journal list feature will offer seamless integration between
ISI Web of Knowledge and the most recent journal table of contents information in
ISI Current Contents Connect®. The alerting enhancement will be made available through
ISI Current Contents Connect and
ISI Web of Science—two pre-eminent resources within the
ISI Web of Knowledge platform. Additional resources will be equipped with this powerful new alerting feature during 2003. The new alerting feature will allow users to receive results of a search via email. The alerts are delivered in a format preferred by the user, including HTML and ISI ResearchSoft tagged files. Each alert will include a link to the related bibliographic record and the full-text of the journal literature.
